3 Success Principles Of a Champion

A while ago, I bought a seat to watch a live mix martial art (MMA) tournament. The most famous one is none other than UFC – Ultimate Fighting Championship. If you do not know about MMA tournament, basically, it’s a sport where the fighters fight in a cage with minimal rules.

When I was watching the sport, somehow, I was able to learn something from the fighters when it comes to success and becoming a champion.
If you look carefully, aren’t you “practicing for championship” as well every day?
These are 3 of the success lessons I’ve picked up:

1. They Work VERY HARD
Before the fighters go on stage, there will be some video clips showing us how they have trained and a short interview. They don’t just train for fighting – they are training to be champions. They work extremely hard, demanding “ridiculous” expectation on their bodies to perform.
Today, most people have forgotten that the secret to success has to do with hard work. Yes, there are a lot of shortcuts, but these shortcuts are not substitutes for working.

2. There Is No Second Place
When the bell rings, there’s only one person standing. And that’s the champion. By being the champion, he’s glorified with attention and prizes. But interestingly, the one who’s defeated was not a poor fighter, he’s definitely a worthwhile opponent. But the camera’s not at him anymore and nobody “cares” about the the fighter’s who’s on the floor lying down.
If you want to achieve success, aim at being a champion. Because the hard work of being #1 or #2 are almost the same; but the reward of a winner is MANY TIMES more than the second place.

3. They Are Specialist
First, they are really good at one thing – fighting. Secondly, they’re also very talented in a specific fighting technique. I call this, “specialization”. I believe, if you or me were being placed in the cage, it’ll just be within seconds and we’ll be knocked off.
There’s no point for you to be good at many skills. I mean, it’s GOOD but it’s not going to help you to achieve success quick. The trick is to become a “specialist”. In fact, this is not even my discovery, it was originally discovered very early on by Napoleon Hill and he explained it in his classic book, Think and Grow Rich.
Everywhere I look; this principle of success will always surface. Be good at ONE specific skill. That will make you to become a champion in your field.

Now you’ve learned these, you need to ask yourself:
Do you work hard?
Or to be more precise, are you WILLING to work hard for your own success?
Most people want to achieve success but not willing to go through the pain.
Are you going all out to be a champion in your game?
Or you’re doing it with the mentality of, “what will be, will be”?
If you’re building a business, do you treat it like a business or a hobby?
And are you focusing on being a specialist?
Or you’re trying to learn and do multiple things at once?
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again here – Success is never about being lucky. Success is about putting lots of effort and the willingness to endure the pain.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this.
